Scarlette Douglas’ Favourite Holiday: Jamaican trip was a real family affair

Scarlette Douglas
Scarlette Douglas

She has been seen on the current Summer Sun series and she’s now jetting all over the world filming for both the next series of that and the latest Winter Sun series.

Scarlette, 28, was previously a musical theatre star, performing on the West End stage and on TV in Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

She lives in Hertfordshire with boyfriend James.

MY very first childhood holiday memory was when I was eight and we went to Barbados.

It was such an eye-opener. We had only one day of rain, which was hot. We were in what seemed like a living Jungle Book with everyone so chilled out.

But I’ve got two all-time favourite places.

One is Jamaica, which is where my family is from.

The first time there was a big family visit I was sitting my GCSEs and I couldn’t believe I missed out and didn’t get a chance to go.

But I’ve been a couple of times since and I love it so much.

The first time was with all my closest family in 2010. We stayed at an

all-inclusive hotel at a water park that was good for the kids – and us big kids.

We went to tourist places like Dunn’s River, which has a huge waterfall.

And also a place called Glistening Waters, a luminous lagoon where you go to at night in a boat.

But because my mum and dad were with us, they were able to take us to places they grew up and it was great to see where they came from and meet family I’d never seen.

I know you sometimes hear about the bad side and the violence but that really wasn’t something we came across at all.

Jamaica is the most popular of all the Caribbean islands and that’s for a reason.

The weather’s always good and the people and food are lovely.

The other place is Bruges, which I just went to with James a few weeks back. We plan on going there as often as we can.

He’s not keen on flying so being able to reach it by Eurostar is a big attraction.

I lived in Zurich for a while when I was in a musical over there and I loved that same old town feel we found in Bruges.

From the minute we got off the train, we felt we’d stepped into a movie with the gorgeous houses and lovely cobbled streets.

And, like Zurich, everything was immaculate.
