Motherhood hits all the right notes for Katherine Jenkins

But it’s such a joy she’s told The Sunday Post that she’s already planning baby number two.

The bestselling classical singer and husband Andrew Levitas had daughter Aaliyah last September.

And Katherine, 35, admits that her arrival has had a bigger impact than she ever imagined.

“I’m just besotted with her,” said Katherine. “You see everything in a totally different way and your whole perspective on life changes.

“I watch the news now and worry about how events will affect her in 20 years’ time.

“I can’t even get through a song without bursting into tears.

“But I definitely want to have more now, probably just one. I want to have a little bit of time to enjoy her and then we’ll start to think about it again.

“She’s been such a gift that of course I’d like to do it again.”

Katherine was back in the recording studio three months after Aaliyah’s birth, keen to prove a strong role model as a working mum.

But the only time she’s had to leave her baby behind for work almost ended in a shambles.

“Andrew and I are really hands-on with her and look after her when the other has to work.

“But the first time I left her I was sobbing and so broken-hearted. In fact, it was so devastating I actually went to the wrong airport.”

The studio sessions were for new album Celebration, which was released on Friday.

It pays tribute to the Queen with a song called This Mother’s Heart, commissioned by Katherine as a gift to Her Majesty, as well as a full rendition of the national anthem.

Katherine joined the crowds at Windsor to see the Queen on her 90th birthday. And having met all the royals in recent years and been invited for lunch with the Queen at Buckingham Palace, she insists it’s been a week to savour.

“I’m a very patriotic person. I think reaching 90 in anybody’s life is a huge thing but it’s been so special for the Queen.

“She’s been an amazing role model, so dedicated and has done it all with such poise and dignity that I think we should be celebrating it.”

Such is Katherine’s status within royal circles she has been invited to be part of the exclusive bill of stars for the official 90th Birthday Celebration at Windsor next month.

“It has all been created to showcase things the Queen enjoys,” explains Katherine. “It’ll be tied in with the Windsor Horse Show, so there will be all the pageantry of that as we perform.

“I believe Andrea Bocelli, Alfie Boe and Dame Shirley Bassey have been asked too, and Ant and Dec are presenting.

“It’s going to be one of those moments you’ll look back on and feel so lucky you were asked.

“It’ll be a global event but it’ll be very special for me personally as I’ll have my mum in the audience and I know she’ll be very proud.”

Katherine will be appearing in Sunderland on May 6 and will be at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall on December 20.

“Aaliyah is so small she’s very portable so I’ll take advantage and always have her with me.”
