Do you ever feel under stress?
When people approach me to turn their lives around I don’t let it stress me unless they think I’m some kind of magical guru I’m not.
So how would you describe what you do?
All I have is helpful techniques, but I don’t always succeed.
Why are your books so well read?
Half of all people who go to the doctor today go with stress-related symptoms.
We’ve never lost so many work days to illness. People just want some help.
Booze or sobriety?
Ha ha. I’ll go for booze.
Do psychiatrists love you or hate you?
That’s a difficult one. I’d say it’s probably 50-50.
How do you handle clients who think you’re mystical?
The best thing to do is to remind them I come from Enfield.
I’m just an ordinary bloke doing an extraordinary job. That’s all.
Would you be good at mind games in the Big Brother house?
God, no. I’d kill myself I think.
Do you prefer the UK or California?
California. Los Angeles, where I live, is a town of ruthless over-achievers, so that suits me right down to the ground.
The only downside is it doesn’t have any great curry houses. Maybe I should open one.
Have you ever gone too far in your stage act?
No, I honestly don’t think I have.
You have 24 hours left to live. How do you spend the time?
Well, my favourite drinking toast is Love and Friends. Money and fame come a way behind them.
So on my last day I’ll have love and friends around me, and I’ll probably have a curry.
