Charlotte Jaconelli says splitting from her partner Jonathan Antoine was for the best.

Britain’s Got Talent star Charlotte Jaconelli almost suffered a panic attack after her split from Jonathan Antoine.

As Jonathan and Charlotte the duo were runners-up in BGT in 2012. But the duo are now pursuing solo careers.

And Charlotte, whose dad’s parents are from Glasgow, says taking to the stage on her own was tough at first.

“I did a tour with Richard and Adam from BGT and the opening night by myself was hard,” Charlotte told The Sunday Post.

“I get nervous but it’s usually more adrenaline, not panicky. But it was a borderline panic attack. I knew that I had to speak and do songs on my own and I think I let it get to me a bit and made myself very, very nervous.

“But the boys were lovely and as the shows went on it got better. By the last night it felt natural again.”

Charlotte says the split was mutually agreed and there’s no hard feelings between the former duo.

“It was easy and difficult at the same time,” she explains. “Easy because we both wanted to do our own kind of music and difficult because we’ve always been together since things took off.

“We just needed a break professionally before that put a strain on the personal side.

“If we’d gone on wanting different styles it could have affected our friendship.”

Charlotte’s first solo album Solitaire is out on June 9. It features musical classics from I Could Have Danced All Night to ballads like Neil Sedaka’s Solitaire. Charlotte says she still looks back on BGT with amazement.

“Watching this series I’ve felt for the people so much. Before I was on it I’d never cry but once you’ve stood on that stage you realise how overwhelming it can be.

“It only takes someone to come on now and say they’re doing it for their dog and I’m in floods of tears!”

Amazingly mature for an 18-year-old, Charlotte puts it down to her folks splitting up.

“I was 10 at time and it forced me to become that bit more mature,” she adds.

“I lived with them on alternate days Monday it was Dad, Tuesday it was Mum because I refused to choose. Even though they were splitting up I didn’t want to be taken away from one or the other.”
