Forest Green boss Mark Cooper was pleased with the reaction he saw from his side in their 2-0 win at struggling Morecambe.
After seeing his side let a two goal lead slip against Mansfield on Saturday, Cooper demanded a reaction from his team and he certainly got one with a convincing performance.
He said: “I was pleased with our performance against a side that had a brilliant result at the weekend.
“We set up a little bit differently today after I had a little nibble at the boys on Saturday after they let Mansfield back into the game when we should have been clear.
‘I demanded a clean sheet tonight and I was pleased with the way they did it.
“We looked a bit anxious on Saturday and I wanted us to be more solid tonight and I think we were. I brought in an extra midfield player with an eye on changing it after about an hour and the game plan worked well. The substitutes made a massive difference and I’m delighted with the result.’’
Morecambe boss Jim Bentley said: “The game panned out pretty much as I thought it would.
“We knew that Forest Green were a team that would have a lot of possession and we set up to hit them on the counter when we could and that is what happened in the first half when we had the better chances.
“They had more possession in the second half and played some nice football but didn’t really test Barry Roche until they scored with a goal that took a wicked deflection which about sums up our season so far.
“We had a great chance to level the scores through Steven Old who missed a great chance after our best bit of football in the half and if we had scored that would have been great.”
Two late goals gave the visitors the win with Jack Aitchison scoring 15 minutes from time before Liam Shephard took advantage of the extra man after Lewis Alessandra’s sending off to score an injury time second.
