RANGERS have released Dean Shiels as his contract at the club comes to an end.

The Northern Irish star signed in 2012 ahead of the Ibrox side’s Third Division campaign.

He scored 32 goals in over 120 appearances.

A statement on the club’s website said: “Everyone at Rangers wishes Dean every success in his future career, and thanks him for their efforts during his time at the club.”

Nicky Law, Nicky Clark and David Templeton were also released by the club last month.

All three, like Shiels, had come to the end of their contracts.

Mark Warburton has bolstered his midfield options for the Premiership, with Jordan Rossiter and Joey Barton both joining Rangers this summer.

It is also understood that a deal for Croatian midfielder Niko Kranjcar could be close.

Warburton is thought to have flown to America last month for talks with the 31-year-old midfielder, who is currently at New York Cosmos.

Reports in Croatian media suggest that the midfielder, who has 81 caps for his country, could sign a two-year deal in the coming days.
