Rangers star reckons critics would brand Gers worst Scottish Cup winners

Nicky Law reckons Rangers’ critics would label them the worst team to ever lift the Scottish Cup if they win this season’s competition.

The Ibrox club are aiming to secure a semi-final showdown with Dundee United by winning their quarter-final replay with Albion Rovers tomorrow night.

It would take them to just two wins away from securing a major piece of silverware and midfield star Law doesn’t give two hoots what criticism would follow.

“If we could win the Cup it would be fantastic,” says the Englishman. “I’m sure a few people wouldn’t enjoy it if we did we would probably be called the worst side in history to win the Scottish Cup.

“But landing the Scottish Cup would mean a lot to us, especially as it has included the teams from the top league.

“We have no guarantees against Rovers and if we do get through we will face a very good Dundee United side, who we all watched beat Inverness last weekend before our own tie.

“Not many teams go there and score five goals. Inverness had a bit of poor luck but I also saw United against Motherwell and they were fantastic there as well.

“They are exciting to watch and are a really good side. We need to put things right on Monday first and then we can look forward to the semi.”

Huge criticism followed Rangers’ 1-1 draw with Albion Rovers at Ibrox last weekend, when a controversial late goal spared the home side’s blushes.

Law has been honest enough in the past to admit performances haven’t been good enough at times and wants to see a dramatic improvement.

He adds: “Obviously there was a huge disappointment last Sunday with the performance and result.

“We weren’t good enough. We should have had enough to break them down. The replay will be difficult but we want to do better.”

Law hopes securing the League One title will also provide his team-mates with a boost and help increase their desire to add more silverware.

Ally McCoist’s men have a Ramsdens Cup Final date already booked with Raith Rovers but the Scottish Cup is, without doubt, their main priority.

And Law is desperate to bag as many winners’ medals as he can.

He explains: “I’ve never won a cup or anything so the League medal will be my first. It was pleasing and I think that’s the same for a lot of the boys.

“It’s one to savour if you like. We’ve known for a while we were probably going to get it but it’s nice to get it sealed.

“There are quite a few boys here who have never won anything so we are all hungry for more success.”
