Three second-half goals proved enough for Eastleigh to reach the FA Cup second round with a 3-0 win over valiant Stourbridge.
Scott Rendell’s penalty early in the second half was just reward for the National League Spitfires, who had spurned numerous clear-cut opportunities in the opening 45 minutes.
Goals from the excellent Sam Smart and Reda Johnson saw Eastleigh over the line in the first-round replay against their Southern Premier Central Division opponents.
Eastleigh captain Danny Hollands headed over under no pressure in the second minute before Aaron Lloyd had the best opportunity of the night for Ian Long’s side.
Johnson failed to deal with a regulation long ball, handing Lloyd a glorious opportunity – only for him to poke tamely into Max Stryjek’s arms.
The diminutive Smart was always going to have a major influence and his surge into the box was upended illegally by Jordan Williams – Rendell making no mistake from the spot.
Williams was sent off not long after for a shove on Holland, and from the resulting free-kick, Smart doubled Eastleigh’s lead.
Johnson lashed home from close range to finish the night in style for Ben Strevens’ men, who can now look forward to a televised clash with Crewe.
