The Government has refused to reveal the results of taxpayer-funded polling into the Smith Commission process on further devolution for Scotland.
The Cabinet Office in Whitehall has admitted forking out thousands of pounds on polls into Scottish attitudes towards independence and devolution since the referendum last September. But they are refusing to reveal any details about what they have found.
In response to a freedom of information request, the Cabinet Office admitted spending more than £4000 on a December poll and said the entire contract with public opinion firm YouGov could cost £10,000.
They will not take up an option to extend the contract until the end of this year.
SNP Depute Leader Stewart Hosie said: “The Tories are so out of touch with Scotland that their struggle to get to grips with the political landscape has reached a new level of desperation.
“If the Tories want to spend money on polling to inform their General Election campaign they should pay for it themselves, using their ample funds from their millionaire donors.
“The UK Government has form here it was previously reported that the Cabinet Office commissioned more than £537,000 worth of private polling from Ipsos Mori during the referendum.”
