Wheeler Dealer TV presenter Mike Brewer reveals his favourite holiday haunts.

TV presenter Mike Brewer is best-known for his hugely popular Wheeler Dealers series.

The programmes see him source and buy iconic cars which are in need of serious work. It’s then up to mechanic pal Edd China to restore them to their former glory so they can be sold on for a profit.

The Discovery Channel series has become a worldwide hit. Former car dealer Mike has also hosted a number of other motoring-related programmes.

London-born Mike, 49, has an 18-year-old daughter Chloe with wife Michelle. The new series of Wheeler Dealers starts on the Discovery Channel tomorrow at 9pm.

He revealed his favourite holiday destinations to The Sunday Post.

“As a kid we always used to go to Leysdown-on-Sea on the south-east coast of England.

“To be absolutely honest, I hated it. We’d go to a caravan every summer and I remember it being cold and wet.

“We’d be stuck in it playing Monopoly, going to poor entertainment in the evening and eating bad fish and chips.

“My favourite place for a holiday was just at home in Brixton. I recall the summer of 1977, running around in shorts and a T-shirt in 90 degree heat.

“As a family we didn’t have the money to go abroad so my first foreign holiday wasn’t until I went in my late teens.

“It was to the former Yugoslavia and a wonderful place called Porec with a lot of Roman history.

“Cyprus became a regular haunt with Michelle, from when she was still my girlfriend.

“We’ve never wanted to go anywhere there are Brits so we found little fishing villages that were typically Cypriot.

“By the late 1990s I was becoming quite a well-known face on television and a lot of people would recognise me.

“It was nice to get away from where Brits would holiday.

“Even today wherever I travel in the world somebody sits next to me and asks me how to sell their motor.

“Wheeler Dealers is now a global format and we make it all over the world. I show how to sell cars globally so that means I travel all over.

“I don’t think there is a dot on the map I can’t say I’ve visited.

“In just the last six months I’ve been to Australia, Brazil and, most recently, I’ve been filming in Houston, Texas. Favourites that spring to mind right away are Australia and Japan.

“Australia’s wonderful once you get out of the cities and Japan is like nowhere else on earth.

“I absolutely love filming there. It’s a fascinating place with great scenery, fantastic roads and everything is immaculate.

“But the place I’m most captivated by is California. I’m always drawn to it, for the cars as well as everything else.

“In the north you’ve got snow to go skiing and at the southern end you have the beaches and lifestyle that goes with them.

“Because I don’t get a lot of time off, a holiday would probably be going home. But I understand that Michelle and Chloe like to get away.

“So when we get a chance I put them on a plane and we explore somewhere new. They came with me to America and that meant they could experience what I was seeing.”
