WE can all agree that being a waiter or waitress must be tough.

Working unsociable hours and dealing with rude guests must get tiresome for even the most patient of souls.

And new research from Gourmet Society has revealed what the job is really like.

Waiters and waitresses from restaurants around the country dished the dirt on weird experiences they’ve had during their time on the job. Here are our favourites…

1. Can I have a look at the pig before ordering a bacon sandwich?

2. Can I have some parsley on my sparkling water?

3. Can I have a banana and mint sauce sandwich?

4. Can I have my food served on the table, without a plate?

5. Can I have some garlic bread – without the garlic?

6. Can you mix a red wine with a white wine to make a rose wine?

7. Can I have a doggy bag of leftover food… from the next table?

8. Can I have soup in a plastic bag to take home?

9. Can I have a straw so I can drink ketchup from the bottle?

10. Can I have a fish which is still alive?

11. Can you put an engagement ring in a milkshake?

12. Could I get a vegetable soup, but with no vegetables?

13. Can I get some beer, for my dog?

14. Actually I’ve got my own frozen dinner, could you heat it up for me?

15. Can you toast the bread four times?

16. Can I wash the dishes instead of paying?

17. It’s raining, could you take my soaked shoes and socks and put them near the ovens by the chef?

18. Can I get each portion of my meal served on separate plates because I don’t want the different foods touching each other?

19. Can I get an omelette without eggs?
