12 celebrities who have been haunted by ghosts

FORMER BBC presenter (and one-time Sunday Post reporter) Selina Scott revealed how her house has been plagued by ghostly goings-on.

The 64-year-old is sure the kitchen in her 15th-Century farmhouse in Yorkshire is haunted.

The spooks have terrified her two dogs Kiki and Nip who refuse to go into the kitchen alone, and a guest staying in the bedroom above told her they’d heard whispering all through the night.

Selina said she’s had to call in a priest who deals in the supernatural.

But she isn’t the only famous face to get a bad case of the heebie-jeebies after an encounter with an otherworldly entity.

Here are some other spooked-out stars.

Matthew McConaughey

The hunky actor once admitted that when he first moved into his Hollywood home, he was visited by an older woman he called Madame Blue.

True to form, he went to investigate a strange noise in his house without wearing any clothes and the two made peace.

“She has no qualms with me. We get along just fine,” the beefcake said. “She’s a cool ghost. Maybe me being nude all the time is why we get along!”

Female ghosts can form an orderly queue . . .

Winston Churchill

He might have seemed unflappable, but the British PM never liked sleeping in Abraham Lincoln’s old room when he visited the White House and frequently asked to be moved.

And he was right to be jittery. On one visit during World War II, he claims he emerged naked from his evening bath smoking his customary cigar, only to find a ghostly Lincoln sitting by the fireplace in his room.

Which man got the biggest fright is up for debate.

Lady Gaga

It was reported in 2010 that quirky singer Lady Gaga spent £3,000 on electromagnetic field sweepers and other equipment to remove evil spirits and “bad energy” before her Monster’s Ball concert in London.

Gaga held a seance to get rid of the ghost, whose name is reportedly Ryan.

A source from her tour explained: “More than anything the spirit is annoying her he won’t leave her alone. She’s freaked out by his presence.”

The feeling may well be mutual.

Telly Savalas

When the Kojak star’s car ran out of fuel and he had to start walking, he heard someone ask if he wanted a lift.

He said: “I turned, saw a guy in a black Cadillac, and climbed in. He loaned me a dollar and I insisted I pay him back and got him to write his name and address on a scrap of paper.”

The next day Savalas looked up the good Samaritan in the phone book. A woman answered the call and confirmed the man he named was her husband . . . but he’d been dead for three years!

Savalas said: “When I showed her the paper she told me it was her husband’s handwriting, I described his clothes and she said those were what he’d been buried in.”

Cilla Black

The red-headed presenter claims that four times in seven years she woke up in the night to find the figure of a young girl, no more than 16, by her bed.

She said: “When it first happened, in my drowsy state, I thought one of the children had come into the bedroom.

“The second time, I knew it was a ghost.”

Talk about a creepy surprise, surprise!

The Beatles

When Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and George Harrison were recording Lennon’s song, “Free As A Bird” in 1995 they all sensed the playful spirit of John Lennon during the sessions.

Paul McCartney said: “There were a lot of strange goings-on in the studio noises that shouldn’t have been there and equipment doing all manner of weird things.

“There was just an overall feeling that John was around.”

Keanu Reeves

As a boy he had chilling, if stylish, encounter.

He said: “I was living in New Jersey when I saw and felt this ghost. I remember just staring at this suit, which had no body or legs in it as it came into the room before disappearing.

“It was a double-breasted suit in white, and I looked at my nanny, who was just as shocked as me.

“I still see the figure in my dreams.”

Roger Moore

The former James Bond was left shaken and stirred one night when he awoke with the feeling that someone was in the room.

He said: “Lying there, with the light of the moon coming through the window, I saw a misty substance floating across the bed. I was rigid with fright.

“When it disappeared, I looked at my watch and saw that it was precisely 2am. The next night, at the same time, the same thing happened.

“Our home help told me to leave a bible opened at the 23rd psalm on my bedside table. Reluctantly, I agreed to do that and try one more night. It worked and I never had the experience again”.

The Queen

Even Royals are said to have seen creepy apparitions. The Queen has reported seeing the ghost of John Brown in a corridor and feeling his presence.

Brown is one of the most popular ghosts of Balmoral Castle and has been seen by others walking around the castle. He is said to be always wearing his kilt.

Another royal residence, Windsor, is perhaps the most haunted of all the monarch’s palaces, with as many as 25 ghosts reported. The ghost of Elizabeth I has been seen by several members of the royal family, including the Queen.

Robbie Williams

There was a double-whammy of celebrity supernatural shenanigans when singer Robbie Williams saw a ghost while living in former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr’s Los Angeles house.

He said: “When I moved out, the removal men wouldn’t go in because of the old lady sitting in the chair!

“Ringo’s son, Zak Starkey, said: ‘I hear you’re in my old place’.

“He asked if I’d seen the children in the garden and the old lady. I never saw the kids but the old lady certainly kept cropping up.”

Sting

The former Police singer claimed he once came face-to-face with a ghost which wandered into his room at the dead of night.

In a Radio 2 interview he said: “I would never have said I believe in ghosts, until I saw one and I’ve seen a ghost with my own eyes.

“I was in bed one night, in a very old house I used to live in. And I woke at three in the morning, bolt upright, looked into the corner and thought I saw Trudie standing there with our child in her arms, staring at me. I then reached next to me…and there was Trudie.”
