Police are working to identify human remains found on an industrial estate in Fife.
Officers were called to Whitehill industrial estate in Whitehill Road, Glenrothes, at 5.20pm on Sunday.
Detectives, supported by a specialist forensic team, are working to identify the remains.
Detective Inspector Christopher Dow said: “A full investigation is under way to establish the person’s identity and the circumstances surrounding how they came to be there, as well as what may have happened.
“Inquiries are still at an early stage.
“We’re contacting relatives of long-term missing people in the local area, and will continue to keep them updated during the investigation.
“Our thoughts are with them all at this difficult time.”
Officers remain at the industrial estate which has been cordoned off.
The family of Allan Bryant Jr, who went missing from Glenrothes on November 3 2013, said they had been visited by police.
In a statement, Allan Bryan Sr said officers visited their home at 10am on Monday, but that it would take several days before the remains could be removed.
