SNP set to launch bid to rename Bank of England to reflect UK-wide status

The Nationalists want to see the institution that oversees UK finances renamed the Bank of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Scottish Conservative finance spokesman Murdo Fraser last night dismissed the move as “petty” and “absurd”.
But SNP MP George Kerevan said: “The Bank of England is a UK-wide institution with UK-wide concerns and its name, governance and practices must reflect this.”
The bank was founded by Scot William Paterson in 1694.
