My Favourite Holiday: Stylist Mark Heyes loves Malaysia and California's vineyards

MARK HEYES is a Scottish fashion stylist, known for his regular TV appearances.

Mark, 39, went to the Glasgow School of Art and his celebrity clients include Lady Gaga.

He lives in London with his partner but his family all still live in Glasgow.

I GREW up in Glasgow but I was born in Lancashire and my earliest holiday memories are of Cornwall.

They are so vivid, especially of Padstow.

Even now I live in London it’s completely the other end of the country, so I take my hat off to my dad for having the patience to make that long drive from the north of England.

To this day I still love staying in a caravan and it all stems from Cornwall.

However, if I had to pick just one place, it’d be Langkawi in Malaysia.

It’s a lovely island that I absolutely adore.

I think we went there about 12 years ago with no money and doing it very much on a shoestring.

We had a cracking time.

The people are so kind and friendly and the food is just off the chart.

Slowly but surely over the years we’ve been going back, getting nicer flights over and staying at nicer hotels.

But the rest of it doesn’t seem to have changed one bit. It’s like it’s been stuck in time, but in a nice way.

The beaches are as stunning as ever and the weather just as fabulous.

I know a lot of people love Thailand and in some ways it’s similar – but I’d say with the bad parts taken out.

It has a small-island feel with not a great number of shops, although I still manage to spend money.

I love buying pieces for my house while I save the fashion-buying stuff for when we hit Kuala Lumpur.

Just last year we went to Napa Valley in the States and loved it so much I’m heading back this year.

It was so relaxing.

I’m not a big wine drinker and I don’t know a great deal about it. But being in those vineyards where they let you taste these amazing wines was very special.

Sitting there sipping wines with some cheese, I couldn’t help thinking I might not get away as often as I’d like, but when I do, I do it properly!
