It’s almost reveal time at last for the long-awaited Toyota Supra, but a new leak has emerged just days before the official reveal.
Said to have been posted on Twitter by Toyota’s Mexican arm and discovered by American motoring publication Jalopnik, an official-looking video has shown the Supra in the full metal for the first time — with previous leaks and teaser images offering small highlights.
Exact specifications have yet to be revealed for the new Toyota Supra — with more on that expected following the car’s public debut at the Detroit Motor Show next week — but it is known that the rear-driven machine will be powered by a straight-six engine.
The car itself has been co-developed with BMW, which uses the same platform for its Z4 convertible which went on sale in the latter half of 2018.
While this new leak has yet to be officially discussed by Toyota, the firm has this weekend showcased a new Supra racing concept. Unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon which is currently taking place, the GR Supra Racing concept hints towards a car developed for the Super GT sportscar championship — with earlier incarnations of the sports car competing in that championship’s predecessor, the Japanese Grand Touring Championship.
Toyota GB has confirmed 300 examples of the Supra are destined for British shores in 2019, with potential customers able to place a £1,000 deposit to secure one of these initial models. No word yet on exact delivery dates, but it can be expected to retail at a similar price to the range-topping BMW Z4 M40i — available from £49,050.
