Skoda Kamiq sketches gives first full glimpse of upcoming SUV

No stranger to a teaser image, Skoda has given us another taste of what to expect on its upcoming Kamiq SUV – this time showing sketches of its design.

This is the clearest look yet at the entry-level SUV, with previous images only giving clues about its LED headlights and overall silhouette.

Clear to see in these new sketches, though, is the overall look of the car, which seems set to boast an evolved form of Skoda’s corporate design. That means a boxy design with thin lights and a large grille.

Alongside the images, the Czech firm also gave a trickling of technology details for the SUV. A two-part LED headlamp design is said to be a brand first, while scrolling indicators are set to feature on the car – as seen on upmarket sister brand Audi’s offerings.

Oliver Stefani, chief designer, said: “In our new Kamiq city SUV we’ve implemented a completely new headlamp configuration. The two-part headlamps with daytime running lights above are a first for Skoda. They give the Kamiq a unique appearance and represent another interpretation of our successful SUV design language.”

Little else is known about the Skoda Kamiq for now, with the car set to make its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5. It’s likely to share components and powertrains from VW Group compact SUV siblings such as the VW T-Roc and Seat Arona, both of which sit on the MQB underpinning that the Kamiq is expected to use.

The compact SUV will slot in below the Karoq and Kodiaq as the entry-level machine in the Czech manufacturer’s large car range.

Skoda also says the Kamiq will take advantage of the ‘Simply Clever’ quirks fitted to its other offerings. These include an ice scraper stored in the Fabia’s fuel filler cap, and bin bags in the door pockets of the Karoq.
