Alison King has opened up about her decision to leave Corrie, saying she doesn’t want to be “broken all the time”.
The actress has played Carla Connor for 10 years – having originally planned to stay with the soap for just four years – and admitted that the long hours took their toll.
She told OK! magazine: “Carla is in everything, which is very flattering, but it never ends.
“You’re doing 15-hour days, plus two hours of learning new scripts once you get home.”
She went on: “To do that for a decade can break you, so I would rather not be broken all the time for the rest of my life.
“I also think Carla has done everything she can do for now.”
Alison – whose final scenes revolve around her wedding to Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) – also explained that she wanted more time with her one-year-old daughter.
However, she admitted saying goodbye to the ITV soap has been tough.
She said: “I’m in an emotional bubble.
“Carla has been crying for five weeks (of filming) and my body thinks I’ve been through some trauma.”
