It shows lack of original thought and vocabulary. How can you convey what you think when you’re not using your own words?
What’s better, a degree from Harvard or experience of life?
For me getting a job in a Bingo hall was more important than a business degree. Might not be for everyone, but it worked for me.
Did you actually say: “Two fat ladies” when you were doing the bingo calling?
No, I found out quickly that I could shout out two more numbers in that time. I could get on to the next game faster and make twice as much money.
What’s better a good education or quick wits?
Quick wits and self-reliance will always win out.
Prefer to demand from colleagues, or nurture them?
That’s tough. I’ve lost good people because I’ve been a little bit too robust in the past. So, I’ll say “nurture” but I still expect excellence.
Is there room for compassion in business?
You can’t build relationships without compassion. Emotional intelligence is very important. It leads you to be hard, or soft, or whatever it takes to get the best out of people.
Dragons’ Den humiliates people or encourages them?
Encourages them.
Which Dragon is vainer, Duncan Bannatyne or Peter Jones?
Duncan. He would probably say that, too. He takes care of himself. He’s in his 60s but looks amazing.
Who’d be better company, young Deborah or an older Deborah?
An older Deborah.

Looking back on what I’ve achieved. This assumes I’m going to die. I’m going to make sure I live forever. Remember, I’m a control freak!
