An entrepreneurial schoolgirl from East Renfrewshire has launched her own pizza delivery service after hearing about some of the generosity shown by food outlets during the coronavirus epidemic.

Eight-year-old Sophie Perrie, who lives in Eaglesham outside Glasgow, launched Magic Pizza after becoming fed up with having nothing to do on her Easter holidays during lockdown.

She began with just one customer – her Gran Linda who lives in nearby Newton Mearns – and with a little help from mum Julie and dad Thomas, Sophie created the freshly-made pizza in her kitchen.

Sophie said: “I like cooking and I love pizzas. I called my Gran up and used my order pad to take her order. Then I went into the kitchen, with my chef’s hat, and put the sauce and toppings on the pizza base.”

That’s not all, the Eaglesham Primary pupil even designed a logo and branding for her new business.

Each pizza is made using a selection of ingredients, including red onion, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, red peppers and pineapple, before Sophie hand-delivers the ready-to-cook pizzas in her own branded pizza boxes.

Sophie added: “Daddy made the box and I decorated it with the Italian flag.”

Now Sophie’s pizzas are in demand from other members of her family.

Mum Julie, 38, said: “It all began last Monday when Sophie decided she wanted to make her family pizza for dinner and we sent a picture to show her Gran, who decided she wanted to order one.

“So the next night, Sophie delivered it, contactless, fresh and ready-to-cook. She sent a text to her Gran to let her know her pizza was en route and asked her to wait 20 seconds before opening the door.

“Sophie works on a donation-only basis, so there was a donation left under the doormat for ‘the chef’!”
