Queen’s Park’s super-fan Keith McAllister’s unbroken 41 year run of watching his favourites in action continued yesterday thanks to The Sunday Post.

The Spiders met Partick Thistle at Firhill in the Betfred Cup and McAllister racked up consecutive game number 1791 after being appointed to the Queen’s Park media team as their co-commentator.

Last week we highlighted that McAllister, who last missed a game in January 1979 when he was working in London and Queen’s travelled to Peterhead in a midweek Scottish Cup replay, believed that his record-breaking run was going to end due to the crowd restrictions that have been introduced due to coronavirus.

It looked like 63-year-old McAllister was going to be locked out until Scotland’s oldest club read about his plight and recognised that he was the best person to help them when they start live streaming their games.

Keith said: “The Sunday Post article was tremendous timing as someone at the club was able to match me with the opportunity that came up as a co-commentator. I am looking forward to carrying out the role. It will be different as I am not going there as just a fan but nevertheless, I am absolutely delighted to be going to the game and keep my run going.”

A club spokesperson said: “In the absence of fans we are looking to move on from providing edited highlights to live streaming our games this season. To do that we need a commentator and a co-commentator.”

“We had already secured a commentator in Craig Mackenzie and when it came to discussing co-commentators Keith was the logical choice to fill the role. The knowledge he has gathered about Queen’s Park over the years is unsurpassed and he will provide a lot of nuggets of information.”
