Rangers boss Mark Warburton is putting his faith in Frank McParland in January window

MARK WARBURTON insists Rangers’ head of recruitment Frank McParland has “nothing to prove” ahead of the crucial January transfer window.

The Ibrox boss is planning a mid-season splurge to tackle his mounting midfield crisis, with Porto kid Joao Teixeira already linked with a loan move to Ibrox.

The loss of summer signings Nico Kranjcar and Jordan Rossiter to injury, along with the departure of Joey Barton, has left Warburton dangerously light in the middle of the park.

But he insists he has unshakable faith in McParland, who is chasing a number of targets, to deliver quality recruits.

“Frank has nothing to prove to us. He is one of the best in the business,” said Warburton.

“He is working away on these names right now and I have no doubt he will be one of Rangers’ best-ever signings.

“He has been overseas and it is about getting the players we want in. We have a few lined up but an attacking midfielder is the priority.

“We have lost Jordan Rossiter, Josh Windass, Matt Crooks and Niko Kranjcar, all for different reasons from our midfield.

“Niko is the biggest frustration because he was someone who was technically outstanding.

“He offered us something a bit different, but losing a young lad like Jordan is also frustrating.”

With recruitment at the top of the agenda, Warburton does not foresee anybody leaving Ibrox next month. Asked whether he was steeling himself for departures, the Gers boss said: “I hope not.”

And he revealed he will not hesitate to bring Martyn Waghorn in from the cold.

Warburton said: “He has been out for a while but he is desperate to play now. I have no worries about playing Waggy up top.

“He is a very good player who scored a lot of goals for us last season. He knows what I think of him, that I trust him and how much I like him as a player and a person.”
