VIDEO: Texas star Sharleen Spiteri chats to The Sunday Post backstage at TRNSMT

SHARLEEN SPITERI was glad to see some Summer Sun on her return to Glasgow.

The Texas star rocked TRNSMT on Friday night having been absolutely drenched the night before at a festival in France.

Speaking to The Sunday Post before she took to the main stage, she said: “Last night we were doing a festival in France and by the time we finished our set my shoes had watermarks on them.

“My other suit is hanging in the truck dripping and my hair was soaking. It was pretty damn wet.”

This was just a flying visit to her homeland for Sharleen, making a quick dash from the airport to Glasgow Green before hopping on another flight later in the evening.

“I got to say hello to my mum and dad for five minutes and that was about it,” she laughed.

On stage, she was sure to thank the loyal Glasgow fans for all their support over the years, and treated them to a number of the band’s top hits including Inner Smile, Black Eyed Boy and I Don’t Want A Lover.

The band ended their set with a singalong to the Elvis classic Suspicious Minds.

Sharleen said: “It’s always special playing a Glasgow festival. I guess there’s a certain expectation from the audience.

“You never walk on stage and don’t want people walking away going ‘wow’, but obviously with a home audience you really want to play and have people go s***, they’re up there.

“There’s a lot of history of great musical moments at Glasgow Green and I’ve been to quite a lot of them so it’s always good to be here.”

With so many hits from over 30 years in as a group, the aim was to squeeze ‘a good mix of what Texas is all about’ into their set.

“It’s a luxury having such a large back catalogue,” Sharleen said. “It’s one of the great things about having such a long career and so many hit records, you have that freedom to decide.

“I know it sounds ridiculous but you look at the weather and think what’s going to work. What time are you going on at, how light or dark it’s going to be, all those things.”

The TRNSMT festival continues today with acts on the bill including Scots bands Franz Ferdinand and CHVRCHES.

The Killers are the headline act on the final night of this year’s event.
