MORE than 22,000 sports fans are expected to flock to a Highland town for the Mountain Bike World Cup.
Organisers are making the finishing touches to “Britain’s most famous downhill course” at the Nevis Range, Fort William, where 250 elite riders will compete.
The Mercedes-Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, held on June 2 and 3, will see riders such as Danny Hart and Greg Minnaar compete alongside superstars Gee and Rachel Atherton.
Organisers say the competition, voted the best mountain bike event in the world, has brought home 33 international and national accolades and contributed £37 million to the Scottish economy.
Demonstrations, tech displays and entertainment are also promised while visitors can meet their favourite riders in their “pits” located throughout the world cup village.
Mike Jardine, from event organisers Rare Management, said: “Tickets are selling fast for this year’s event.
“The fans love the whole experience and can’t wait to see who is going to take the win this year. The riders love it because there is no better crowd, location or atmosphere.”
