TODAY is St Andrew’s Day, so we thought we’d take some time to celebrate what makes Scotland so great!

Here are ten of our favourite things about the country we call home…

The Landscape

From the Highlands to the Lowlands, via the Bonnie Banks in-between, vast swathes of our country are breathtakingly beautiful.

Calendar manufacturers must struggle to keep the scenic shots down to just 12 a year as there are plenty to choose from!

The Attractions

It’s no wonder people flock to our beloved country with the sights we have to offer.

We’ve got the modern favourites of the Falkirk Wheel, Glasgow Science Centre or The Hydro and the ancient castles in Edinburgh and Stirling.

Countless top tourist spots pepper our land – and we enjoy visiting them as much as our foreign guests do!

The People

Wha’s like us?

Generous, welcoming, proud, honest – just a few words to describe the average Scot.

We know how to work hard and, perhaps more importantly, how to have fun.

We’ve got our own way of doing things and saying things, if you ken whit I mean!

The Humour

We love a joke and have produced fine comedians like Billy Connolly, Rikki Fulton and Kevin Bridges.

But it’s not just those on stage that give us a giggle every day.

Here are a few examples….

The Culture

Art? We’ve got it.

Music? We’ve got it?

TV & Film? We’ve got it.

Some of the world’s finest designers, musicians, actors, poets, you name it, are Scots.

If you’ve ever admired the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, immersed yourself in the music of Simple Minds or Annie Lennox, or watched Sean Connery’s Bond you’ll know that when it comes to culture, we’ve got it.

That’s before you mention the annual festivals….

The Politics

For many a year, our political scene has been vibrant.

But in the past few years, it’s been turbocharged.

When it comes to Scottish politics, people love to get involved and to have their say on shaping the future of the country.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon (centre) and former Presiding Officer Tricia Marwick(second left) join Scottish Labour leader in the Scottish Parliament Kezia Dugdale(far left) Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson(third right), Scottish Green Party leader Patrick Harvie (second right) and Scottish Liberal democrat leader Willie Rennie (Andrew Milligan/PA Wire)

The Food & Drink

A full Scots breakfast including black pudding, tattie scone and square sausage is a sight to behold.

And there’s haggis, which is looked upon by outsiders with a mix of curiosity and mild disgust…

An Australian tastes haggis.. for the first time

As it's Burns Night tomorrow, we got our resident Australian to taste haggis for the very first time and to have a bash at the Address to a Haggis… Here's what happened!

We’re one of the few countries in the world where Coca-Cola isn’t the top fizzy drink – that honour goes to the sweet nectar of Irn Bru, made from girders of course.

And when it comes to alcohol, our whisky is world famous. So famous, it has its own spelling. Without the e, please.

The History

We’ve got a rich and varied history behind us.

The fascinating stories of the likes of Robert the Bruce, William Wallace and Mary Queen of Scots are tales that have stood the test of time.

We’re keen to acknowledge where we’ve come from and trace back our origins and roots through clan tartans.

The Sport

Our football team may not be the greatest in the world, but the passion our fans have for the sport is unrivalled.

We gave the world golf and some of its greatest courses, and our athletes have performed admirably at Olympic and Commonwealth Games home and abroad.

Oh, and let’s not forget the fact that our very own Andy Murray is world number one in tennis and his big brother Jamie’s top of the world for doubles.

Not bad for two boys from Dunblane!

The Weather

Four seasons in one day? Not a problem.

Our weather is unique, and would we have it any other way?

Well, maybe…
