The Scottish Wedding Census 2018, which asked more than 500 people about their 2018 weddings, revealed that when it comes to choosing a venue for the ceremony, the hotel remains at the top of the list and is chosen by almost a third (30%) of all brides-and-grooms-to-be.

A place of worship is the second most popular choice for hosting the ceremony, while castles are third. And when it comes to choosing a venue for your reception, a hotel is also the most popular, with almost half (45%) of all couples opting for this, followed by castles, barns, public use building and stately homes.

Of course, one in eight (12%) couples tying the knot choose something completely different. In 2018, some more quirky wedding receptions were held at a zoo, a pub and a football stadium! Whatever your preference, here is a list of 7 amazing venues that could be the answer to your destination dilemma:

For something a little bit different, it has to be Comrie Croft

Comrie Croft is a wee bit different from a typical wedding venue.

A 200-year-old farmstead, house and barn set around a courtyard, together with 231 acres of fields and woods. Most of the time it’s an award-winning green destination for people camping, hostelling or mountain biking, then someone asked the venue if they could get married there and they thought that sounded like a lovely idea.

Weddings at Comrie Croft tend to be informal affairs with a relaxed house-party or even festival atmosphere with two nights included to spend time with your nearest and dearest.

Pop along to their Cosy Winter Nosy on November 16, from 12noon until 3pm for an afternoon of live music, tasters and marshmallow-toasting.

Elaborate or simple wedding? You can have either at Elsick House

Your wedding day is the most important day of your life and everything will be done to ensure that it is individual and exactly how you would like it.

The experienced team at Elsick House are on hand to guide you through the process, ensuring that you have everything that you wish for and that no detail is missed – whether you choose us for the marriage itself, the reception – or both.

The day can be as elaborate or simple as you prefer. Experience has shown them that when it comes to the preparation side of things couples are grateful for a simplicity of approach. They aim therefore to offer all the necessities that are essential to the service and reception as standard within the quoted price, whether it be the marquee or the house only option, including all tables, chairs, heating, wedding coordinator, PA system, projector and screen, cake table and signing table and a handful of outdoor tables and chairs.

Garden lighting also adds to the festive atmosphere and comes as a normal part of the wedding preparations. For the following day garden tables and chairs and a summer house provide an ideal start for a family barbecue or you may just prefer a relaxed lunch and catch-up within the house.

Anything special or unusual can be added but there will not be any hidden charges.

The garden and grounds also offer a picturesque backdrop for your photographic memories. Whether it be under the trees or on the bridge over the pond or with the backdrop of the wall, the choice is endless. They also have a marquee up for the summer months of the year in the walled garden so a ceremony can be held inside or out under the rose arbour.

For those wanting midweek or winter weddings a reduction of up to 50% may apply and flexibility on one-night stays can be offered out of season. Please ask Alison by clicking here for more details.
