Small but beautiful, Barbados is heavenly according to ITV weatherman Alex Beresford

AS a weatherman, Alex Beresford’s sunny disposition puts a smile on viewers’ faces regardless of what it’s like outside.

He’s well-known for ITV Weather and Good Morning Britain reports and also hosts specials and works on current affairs show Tonight.

Alex, 35, lives in Bristol with partner Natalie and their son Cruz, six.

I THINK you always remember your first holiday as a family and it was Majorca for Natalie and myself with Cruz.

I’m a big fan of Spain in general – in fact we’ve just been this month – and Majorca in particular.

I think the beaches are among the best you’ll find anywhere, the absolute equal of ones in the Caribbean where I’ve travelled pretty extensively.

I think Cruz was about six or seven months, not quite crawling too far away, and we got into a lovely routine of each getting some chill time among the parent duties.

Of all the Caribbean places I’ve been to, Barbados is the one I’d recommend.

In some destinations you don’t necessarily feel that safe out and about, but that’s definitely not the case in Barbados.

You get a chance to get a proper insight into the lives of the locals and some of the things they do, like a super-tasty fish frying session on a Friday evening.

It’s such a small island you can pretty much get round everything in a day.

Exotic places like that were only a dream when I was a kid – I didn’t even go abroad until I was 14.

Until then our holiday spot was only ever Dawlish Warren in Devon.

We went to a caravan and, as well as my mum and dad, there would be my mum’s sister and her family plus the grandparents.

We were all crammed into this one caravan with every possible space taken.

So, not only would all the bedrooms be full, we’d be on the floor in the living room area, too.

We’d spend the evenings all together playing cards and Pictionary and they were just the best of family times.

Of course, being Britain, half the time the rain would be battering off the tin roof, but when you’re a kid the noise and the spectacle of that seems so exciting.
