Sir Kenny Dalglish on Liverpool’s star full-back pair Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold

Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander Arnold

I’m often asked to compare Danny McGrain and Sandy Jardine – two of the finest full-backs I ever played with – with the current Liverpool pair, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The truth is that is a very difficult thing to do, and I’m not one for saying, ‘This guy is better than that guy’ and ‘My era was more difficult than this day and age’. It’s just not my style.

It’s like the way some people are obsessed with wanting an opinion on who is the best just now – Messi or Ronaldo? Or was Maradona better than Pele?

The bottom line is that every one of them is, or was, top-drawer.

Why not enjoy their talent at the present moment, or reminisce about the others and the enjoyment they brought to so many football fans around the world decades ago.

Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold

Currently, the Liverpool fans are thrilled and delighted with Andy and Trent.

They are as good at their jobs as any other full-backs in football right now. I can’t praise them higher than that.

Both are an integral part of what Jurgen Klopp asks his team to do, and deliver on a consistent basis.

They have assists on a regular basis and score some great goals. They also defend superbly well and prevent goals form being scored against the team.

All in all, they are brilliant – and long may it continue.
