DUNDEE could become home to Scotland’s tallest building under new proposals to build a huge complex at the city’s waterfront.

InverTay Homes has released their ambitious vision for the 39 floor, 141m tall Discovery Heights development, situated between the V&A and the Tay Road Bridge.

The newbuild would include a conference centre, luxury apartments, a five star hotel, boutique shopping and a Sky Bar.

Developers say the project would bring around £200m investment into the Dundee economy and create hundreds of construction jobs.

Once complete, it is estimated that almost 1000 permanent jobs could be provided across the building.

The new building would be near the city’s V&A museum

InverTay Homes’ Director of Operations Edward Wighton said in a promotional video for the project that the next steps would be to assess the site to see if the building was achievable before applying for planning permission.

He said: “Everyone who lives in Dundee or the surrounding areas could come and enjoy the building and everything that’s contained within it.”

He added that he was ‘extremely keen’ to ensure that Dundonians were involved in the full project.

At 125m, the Glasgow Tower is Scotland’s current tallest building.

In Dundee, the 1849 built Cox’s Stack at the Camperdown Works jute mill factory was once Europe’s tallest building at 86 metres tall.

The giant chimney, built in the style of an Italian campanile, still stands today in the Lochee area of the city.
