AS part of their Fresh Approach kitchen campaign, Currys PC World have delved into the nation’s eating habits to find out how experimental the UK is when it comes to trying new dishes, and the most unexpected favoured dishes that people in England, Scotland + Wales enjoy (or not!)

Scotland

Using YouGov data, Currys found that the unexpected dish Scots were more partial to a helping of Middle Eastern Lentil Soup compared to the least popular dish of Chinese Yuk Sung. Other interesting findings include:

  • 18% of Scottish people surveyed had eaten a vegan meal in the past month, higher than the UK average (14%) and the same as London (18%)
  • Almost two thirds (63%) of those in Scotland think it’s important to shop sustainably when it comes to food
  • Almost a third (29%) of people surveyed like to cook a new dish or recipe in the kitchen every week, making Scotland the third most experimental place after London & the North East

Analysis of the most unexpected favourite foods across the country show different regions have an eclectic tastes. From Shashlyk in Wales to Chinese Yuk Sung in the West Midlands, here are the most unexpectedly popular and least popular dishes across the different regions.

Many won’t be surprised to see that London has a taste for exotic dishes, thanks to the abundance of restaurants in the capital serving international cuisine. But what’s more surprising is that many of the regions across England, Scotland and Wales have just as much of an international taste.
