Scotland will get a World Cup send-off tonight at Hampden in their friendly against Jamaica.

Tonight’s match serves as a final warm-up game for Shelley Kerr’s side before they head off to France.

It’s the first time the women’s national team has played at Hampden since 2012, and it’s hoped the game will break their attendance record.

The target to beat is the 4,098 achieved last year against Switzerland, and head coach Kerr stressed the significance of a five-figure crowd.

She said: “We want to continue in the same form we have been in. We want to build momentum going into the World Cup, that is important.

“But ultimately we are looking at the support.

“For me, it would be a huge watershed moment in Scottish women’s football if we can exceed 10,000, and I am confident we can do that.

“I think the players deserve it. We have always set ourselves a target of inspiring the nation and it would be fantastic for the players if we were to get that 10,000 or more.

“It is the national stadium, it is what dreams are made of.

“Personally, I am very fortunate to be at the helm to take my team to the World Cup. But pre-World Cup, to lead the team out at Hampden, it doesn’t get any better, and if we get that number as expected, I will have a little wry smile at the end of the game regardless.”

The game will be a special occasion, with Kerr addressing the crowd after the match and the players taking a lap round Hampden to celebrate their achievement in qualifying.

Lisa Evans will be presented with her 75th cap, while there will also be a ceremony for the members of the first ever Scotland women’s international squad.

The special World Cup Scotland kit will be available for sale at a pop-up retail unit, and Dundee singer Be Charlotte will perform ahead of the match.

Tickets priced £5 for adults and £2 for kids will be available at cash gates. Scotland Supporters Club Members can present a valid SSC Membership card at one of the cash gates to gain free entry.

Ahead of the match, striker Lana Clelland said: “Jamaica are a good team. They have players playing all over the world – some in the USA too. They aren’t going to the World Cup for no reason. It will be a good game and we are really looking forward to it.”

The Fiorentina forward added: “I’m very excited – it will be an emotional day. At the end of the day though, we want a good performance, and a win to give the fans what they want to see from us before going to France.

“It would be incredible to have another record attendance. The fans have followed us through thick and thin, through the Euros and the qualifying for this World Cup – to have them come out in numbers would be fantastic.”
