Queen Margaret University teams up with Edinburgh theatre trust in bid to nurture new talent and create opportunities

Queen Margaret University has teamed up with Festival City Theatres Trust

QUEEN MARGARET UNIVERSITY and Festival City Theatres Trust have joined forces to develop a scheme which could lead to a wide variety of exciting opportunities for students, staff and the wider community.

Festival City Theatres Trust manages Edinburgh venues King’s Theatre, Festival Theatre and the Studio at Potterrow.

It is hoped that these venues will host teaching sessions, workshops, theatre rehearsals and community theatre projects.

Thanks to the new partnership, students will also have the option to gain invaluable work experience through internships, research projects and community engagement opportunities.

University events, such as the important end-of-year showcases, could now be staged in one of Festival City Theatre Trust’s impressive venues.

Richard Butt, Deputy Principal at Queen Margaret University said the collaboration could open the door to ‘outstanding opportunities’ for the students.

He said: “This new collaboration presents outstanding opportunities for our students to enhance their skills and knowledge by learning in a true theatre and arts environment.

“Beyond our drama, festival and cultural management students, there are also prospects for event management, PR, marketing and healthcare students to develop special projects.”

Duncan Hendry, Chief Executive of the Festival City Theatres Trust, said the partnership could help to nurture new talent.

He said: “This partnership is based on our shared values of equality, diversity and participation, and the development of sustainable arts and cultural organisations which contribute positively to communities and nurture new talent.

“Importantly, we are pleased to be able to contribute positively to undergraduate and postgraduate cultural programmes and to further develop community education for a wide variety of people in Edinburgh and throughout Scotland.”
