IT has been revealed that Instagram has overtaken Facebook as the preferred social media platform for art businesses.

This year’s Hiscox Online Art Trade report found that the image driven platform was a hit with artists looking to share their work.

Social media has proved to be a great showcase for talent, and here are five artists based in Scotland who are sharing their work on Instagram and a variety of other channels.

Chris Labrooy

Chris is a digital artist who has created work for brands such as Apple, Nike, Porsche, Time Magazine and Louis Vuitton.

Based in Glasgow, Chris is mostly known for his incredible automotive digital art.

You can find behind the scenes glimpses of his work on his Instagram account.

Daniel Conway

A graduate from Dundee University, Daniel’s impressive digital art skills have got him some serious brownie points on social media, especially YouTube.

One of the videos showing Daniel draw has had over 200,000 views online and is absolutely mesmerising.

Sam MacDonald

If you are looking for something slightly more traditional, Sam MacDonald is worth following on Facebook.

He is a marine sculptor, with a lot of his inspiration coming from Scottish rivers.

Over on his Facebook page you can find not only his latest work but some behind the scenes footage of the man in action.

Technique 1.

Final stage ( my favourite stage) of making a trout after gold leafing and colouring with five different types of gold leaf used. This is the lacquering which makes the gold leaf come alive just before being put in a pizza oven at 60 degrees for an hour.

Tom Humberstone

Originally from Edinburgh, Tom’s comics have been published from the New Statesman to Doctor Who (Titan).

Find his most recent works of art over on Instagram, but his Twitter account also offers quite good general material.

Trevor Jones

Based in Edinburgh, Trevor is an artist who mixes technology and art, resulting in stunning augmented reality pieces of work.

Watch his art take on new forms of life on YouTube, with his latest a collaboration with KT Tunstall.
