Six hundred neighbours are celebrating after sharing almost £8 million from the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Six winners from Old Manse Road in the Netherton neighbourhood of Wishaw, with the postcode ML2 0EN, each won £368,461 while 621 other winners from the North Lanarkshire town won between £8,092 and £24,276.

The shared £7.9m win was announced at a special event at the Glasgow Fort Shopping Centre yesterday. Katrina Drummond, 47, was one of those who received the top prize. Drummond, who suffers from fibromyalgia, said: “I thought I had won £1,000 which would have been great. They came to see me and I burst out crying when I found out how much I’d won.”

Drummond, who works as a financial administrator, added: “The money is life-changing for me. There’ll be no more scrimping and scraping, cash backs and vouchers.

“One of my biggest worries was how to pay the heating bill, but the days of walking about with a candle and five jumpers are over.”

Celebrating her win with friends and family last night, she added: “The whole of Netherton is buzzing. There will be a few parties tonight and a few people will get the jail.”

Gran-of-six Jean Moffat, 74, also won £368,461.

She said: “I’m absolutely over the moon. My son across the road won, my cousin won, and my friend across the road.

“There’s loads of people that I know that have won.”

Asked what she planned to buy, she said: “I don’t need big fancy things. I’ll get a new oven. I’ll still be happy with my fish suppers, I’ll not be switching to caviar.”

The windfall is the biggest single prize pot to be awarded by the People’s Postcode Lottery in Scotland.

The People’s Postcode Lottery was created to raise funds for charities in Britain and beyond. Players of the lottery have now raised more than £850 million for good causes.
