Stuart MacBride is the bestselling author of many Logan McRae and Ash Henderson novels.

He has also published standalones, novellas, short stories, and a slightly twisted children’s picture book for slightly twisted children. Stuart lives in the wilds of north-east Scotland with his wife Fiona, their cats Gherkin, Onion, and Beetroot, lots of hens, some horses, and a truly staggering assortment of weeds.

We asked Stuart to share his favourite spots in Scotland to celebrate the release of his latest novel, This House of Burning Bones.

The perfect place for an ice cream.

Not only does this tiny seaside village have an excellent ice cream shop, it’s also got some wonderful views. We get ourselves a double scoop of our favourite flavours, then eat them as we head down to the harbour, around by the caravan park, and back up the hill again. A lovely little gem in the Scottish crown.

Pick up a bowl of famous Cullen skink.

Home of the famous skink, and a lovely wee place to wander around. My favourite is along the top of the viaduct – bracing on a winter’s day when the wind whistles straight through you, and balmy when the sun comes out. Keep going and you can go all the way to Portknockie and take a peek at Bow Fiddle Rock.

A great place to feel inspired.

We used to live nearby, and this was one of my regular haunts. They have a very swish walled garden and nice little loch too, where the woods are redolent with the savoury scent of wild garlic and ancient pine. A great place to squirrel yourself away with a laptop to write crime novels…

This House of Burning Bones by Stuart MacBride is out now.
