SCOTLAND is internationally renowned for producing fantastic whisky – and for those who enjoy a dram, a trip to a distillery is the ideal day out.

There are over 120 active whisky distilleries scattered across the country – ranging from the very small to the very large. And many offer the chance to sample their wares, buy limited edition products and even take a tour to see for yourself how each bottle is made.

Each region of the country offers something a wee bit different -the local environment plays a huge part in the end result – so no matter which area you visit you will find a distillery typical for the area.

And it’s not just whisky – the rising popularity of gin distilleries around the country, many of which offer their own tasting sessions and tours. From Orkney to the Borders, there are dozens of gin and spirit distilleries.

Each distillery tour or tasting session is run by experts – they know their products better than anyone else, so who better to learn from? From the best mixers to the history of the spirit, you will come away with a wealth of knowledge (and probably a couple of treats from the gift shop!)

There are even companies which specialise in creating distillery tours, so you can sit back and enjoy a tipple from different stops along the way.

So whether you want to visit one distillery or a few, you will be spoiled for choice.
