SOCIAL media has changed the way we share our pictures, allowing us to upload our snaps at the touch of a button.

And it’s the same for artists too, with more and more heading online to showcase their talents.

According to experts, this year we will see a movement in the art industry towards digital, from independent artists opening their doors to new demographics online, to art galleries upping their offerings globally.

It could also mean that 2017 is the year that art enthusiasts turn into savvy art investors.

In a recent interview, Emily Burke of Christie’s said: “In the first half of 2016, the number of clients buying through online-only sales increased by 60%, with 26% of new buyers choosing an online sale for their first transaction with Christie’s.”

Here are five contemporary Scottish artists who are using Instagram as a platform to share their work, should you wish to expand your art portfolio!

Kim Canale – Angus

As well as being an artist, Kim is also the founder of the Wall Project.

In her two studios Kim curates contemporary art from around the north-east of Scotland which attracts art enthusiasts from all around to visit.

Her Instagram account is not only inspirational but also gives visitors a glimmer of the art pieces to expect to see at the Wall Project exhibitions.

Lauren Bowman – Edinburgh

Bowman is an Edinburgh based artist specialising in contemporary miniature paintings and drawings.

Her website is filled with drawings that tell their own stories, leaving plenty to the imagination.

Matthew Draper – Edinburgh

Edinburgh based landscape artist Draper’s approach to light in his paintings is enchanting.

His Instagram account gives a behind-the-scenes peek at his work and latest exhibits.
