LINDSEY Kelk is the bestselling author of the I Heart… and Tess Brookes About A Girl bestsellers.

Together with two other books, they have sold more than one million copies in 22 countries.

Her latest, I Heart Forever (HarperCollins £7.99,) about Angela, Alex and Jenny is out this month.

Yorkshire-born Lindsey, 36, now lives in Los Angeles with her boyfriend.

THE two places I’d pick are both in the desert, but couldn’t be any more different.

It’s funny that I love hot desert places as I’m from Yorkshire, which isn’t known for its fabulous weather, and I’m also the palest human alive.

Anyway, one is Las Vegas and the other is Palm Springs.

To me a holiday is all about getting away from the routine and recharging your batteries. And being in the desert feels about as far away from real life as it’s possible to be.

The first time I went to Vegas I was 22 and was with a friend for her big sister’s wedding. Because we were just starting our careers, we were absolutely broke and did it all on a shoestring.

It was still the most incredible, insane experience as everyone is there to have fun and is up for a good time. You feel like anything could happen at any time, which is very exciting.

Because we now live in LA, Vegas isn’t far and we often go for little breaks. I don’t gamble at all but there are really good restaurants and bars and nice pools to sit by.

And then there are the fabulous shows. I’ve seen Britney Spears and Mariah Carey. I grew up in a mining village near Doncaster so Sheffield was the nearest place to see acts, and not all the big names came there.

Being able to drop in and see such stars every time we go is such fun.

Palm Springs is a real contrast.

It’s known for its retirement communities but there are also these super-hipster hotels like the Parker, which is famous from Instagram.

Palm Springs is such a calm, natural place overall, very laidback – even the restaurants close at 10pm.

And there’s no light pollution, so the stars are amazing.

My boyfriend is obsessed with tennis and there’s a big tournament every February.

You can never get tickets for Wimbledon or the US Open but that’s not the case at Palm Springs.

We’ve seen Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Venus and Serena Williams.
