There’ll be familiar surroundings for Maloney as he starts his new role, with his first match with the Belgium national side being a visit to Hampden.
The Red Devils face Scotland in a friendly next Friday ahead of their UEFA Nations League opener against Iceland the following Tuesday.
Maloney had been working with Celtic as a youth coach.
He was capped 47 times by Scotland, scoring seven times, and also played for Aston Villa and Chicago Fire, along with two spells at Parkhead.
