TWO Edinburgh attractions have been named in the top ten UK landmarks on TripAdvisor.

Edinburgh Castle places fourth in the review site’s list, with the Royal Yacht Britannia in fifth.

Three London attractions, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and Big Ben, make up the top five.

The list was compiled as part of TripAdvisor’s 2018 Traveller’s Choice awards.

Edinburgh Castle is described as “outstanding and not to be missed” by reviewers.

The review for the Royal Yacht reads: “An eye opener to how the royal family lived on board—so much protocol and tradition—and about life below decks for the crew.”

Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive of VisitScotland, said: “It is wonderful to see two Scottish attractions make the top five of TripAdvisor’s 2018 Landmark Awards.

“Edinburgh Castle, which last year welcomed over 2million people, is the highest rated landmark outside of London with the Royal Yacht Britannia at Leith following close behind.

“Both of these attractions offer unique experiences for visitors, giving them a taste of all the fantastic things to see and do in Scotland. It is great to see them receive such thoroughly-deserved recognition.

“Awards such as these act as a springboard for visitors to discover wider regions and our country’s hidden gems.”
