TAXPAYER-owned Prestwick Airport is refusing to say how much of a pay-off departing boss Ron Smith will bank.

The £120,000-a-year chief executive will leave his position by “mutual agreement” at the end of October, but bosses at the loss-making Ayrshire airport are refusing to say if he will get a redundancy deal.

Earlier this year The Sunday Post revealed Mr Smith had claimed a £1400 luxury bed and a £1000 dining room suite on relocation expenses.

However, Prestwick also refused to say if Mr Smith will be asked to repay these expenses, given that he was only in his post for 15 months.

The same expense claims also showed Prestwick chairman Andrew Millar, who banks £300 every day he works, is claiming £30 every day in petrol for his commute from Glasgow to Prestwick.

Mr Millar last week appointed former Loganiar boss Stewart Adams as interim chief executive.

He said: “Mr Adams comes with a wealth of experience of the aviation industry both in Scotland and internationally and we look forward to working with him during the process of recruiting a permanent CEO for the airport.”

Accounts for Prestwick show a £9.21 million loss in 2015/16.
