America’s favourite crisps were only available in JAIL until now

IT’S criminal that they haven’t been on sale before — but America’s favourite crisps have finally broken out of jail.

Inside the USA’s prisons, life can be tough, but the one advantage jailbirds have is the food, and the crisps in particular.

The Whole Shabang are the crisps — or potato chips, as they call them — served in US jails, and they taste delicious.

Their flavour, in fact, is said to be better than any crisps sold on the outside, and former inmates often finish their jail term and never manage to find such great-quality treats in the free world.

This (and it could only happen in America) even led to some crisp fanatics deliberately breaking the law, in order to earn themselves a prison sentence and thus regular access to nice bags of The Whole Shabang!

For several years, people have been all over social media and every corner of the internet, hunting for any outlet that might sell The Whole Shabang outside of prison, but without success.

Occasionally, there would be a rare auction on eBay, but the only sure ways to get lots of The Whole Shabang crisps was to visit someone behind bars, or get yourself in there by breaking the law.

Many a message was posted to the Keefe Group, the company that supplies the crisps to US prisons, and there have even been petitions signed by lots of hungry folks.

So much for horrible prison food, you might think!

With its recipe as closely-guarded as all those crooks behind bars, various attempts at copying The Whole Shabang simply fell short of the high standard of the real thing.

Now, however, comes the news everyone outside those prison walls has been praying for — they are going to be made available to non-jailbirds!

Alas, they are also going to set you back around a tenner a bag, so they’ll be an occasional treat only.

Said to be flavoured with salt, vinegar, garlic, barbecue smoke and secret spices, we’d love to try them — but without being jailed for the privilege.
