Ardal O’Hanlon will be back for more helpings of Death In Paradise.

The former Father Ted actor took over from Kris Marshall in the lead role of the hit BBC One crime drama, which is filmed on the French-Caribbean island of Guadeloupe.

The broadcaster said it has commissioned a ninth and 10th series of the drama, with O’Hanlon back as DI Jack Mooney.

It was announced on air following the end of the eighth series on Thursday night.

O’Hanlon will be back to head up the Saint Marie police team with co-stars Tobi Bakare, Shyko Amos, Don Warrington and Elizabeth Bourgine.

Aude Legastelois becomes a new series regular as DS Madeleine Dumas, following her debut in the final two episodes of the last series.

She said: “I can’t wait for Madeleine to be fully integrated into the Honore Police team and for the viewers to get to know her further.”

Tommy Bulfin, BBC drama commissioning editor, said: “We are delighted to announce that Death in Paradise is coming back to BBC One.

“The show is a jewel in our roster of top drama and we are thrilled that it’s returning.”

Death In Paradise launched in 2011 with Ben Miller in the lead role.
