Actor Tom Urie wants to help others follow his life-changing path to fitness with new radio show

FORMER River City actor Tom Urie is to share the secrets of his incredible weight loss success with radio listeners.

Tom’s take on his inspirational life change from a man so unfit and overweight he did not think he would live to see 50, to dashing about stage as an Ugly Sister in panto and cycling home at 3am from a DJ gig.

Shedding almost 20 stone is just a part of it for Tom, who was once so out of breath he would hide away in his flat rather than tackle the stairs.

He said: “Year after miserable year, my life was defined by my dreaded bathroom scales.

“Every pound lost was an excuse to go and have a roll and sausage. Every pound on was another reason to hate myself.

“Now I don’t even own a set of scales. I binned mine and they are staying in the bin!”

Tom says the only way he now monitors his weight is by how he feels and how his new wardrobe fits, delighting in the joy of being able to buy a pair of jeans off the shelf instead of having to send away for “big man clothes”.

Tom reckons he is just the right choice to present Radio Scotland’s new show because he has tried every diet known to man and he knows just how hard it is to motivate yourself.

The once a week show, starting Thursday, January 10, at 1.30pm, will also feature encouragement from fitness guru Ross Stewart, on Radio Scotland and the BBC Sounds App.
