Ross King: Home stars set to shine at the Golden Globes

I’ll be on the red carpet as usual and, while I was planning my questions, I realised something.

There are nominees from England, Ireland, Wales and, most importantly, Scotland.

So I wondered – if you have a look down the nominee list, can you name one from each of those countries?

The first is easy – oor ain Alan Cumming.

DC Thomson’s third most talented employee (after me and the wonderfully handsome editor who pays my wages!) is nominated for a Best Actor gong for The Good Wife.

Alan’s been doing great work on the drama series and I think he’s fantastic, and not just because he helped with some nice testimony on my application to secure a Green Card.

That’s not another name for a season ticket at Celtic Park, it’s an application for US citizenship!

The Irish star nominated was actually born in Germany – the smouldering Michael Fassbender.

He’s nominated for playing the role of Steve Jobs. That makes him the third actor to do so in the few years since the Apple boss died.

Well President Barack Obama promised more Jobs before he got elected…

That joke’s so bad Barack burst out greeting again.

We have plenty of actors representing England and Mark Rylance has been nominated for Steven Spielberg’s Bridge Of Spies.

He’s probably the foremost actor of our generation and has an incredible reputation among theatregoers.

I know how he feels. The good review flooded in when I did Rocky Horror Show on the West End. Still have it pinned to my wall.

Mark has never much been interested in doing movies, but has now been brilliant on the wee screen in Wolf Hall, and now the big screen in Spielberg’s cold war drama.

So who’s the Welsh actor? None other than Christian Bale. It’s easy to forget the most intense Batman of all time hails from The Valleys.

He’s starring in The Big Short – which sounds like another Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito movie.

It’s actually a comedy drama about the US financial crisis and the reasons why there’s no money left anywhere.

Well, apart from at the Beverly Hills Hilton, where the Golden Globes will take place.

I spoke to the executive chef there and asked him what he’s planning to serve the stars tonight.

Anything they want, was the honest answer.

If Leo DiCaprio wants a steak, he gets a steak. Absolutely nothing is off the menu.

I might ask Alan if he can put in a request for a plate of stovies for me…
