Bestselling crime author Peter James has described the all-star cast assembled for the first stage adaptation of his work as “murderously wonderful”.

The award-winning writer has sold over 15 million copies of his Roy Grace series and been published in 36 languages.

Now Detective Superintendent Grace is being brought to life with the stage version of James’s novella, The Perfect Murder, which spent 15 weeks at No1 in the book charts.

Adapted by Shaun McKenna, whose credits include the West End stage version of The Lord of the Rings musical, the darkly comedic thriller tells the story of Victor Smiley and his wife Joan, who have been married for a long time.

Victor secretly loathes Joan and is getting attention elsewhere, while Joan is bored stiff by her husband.

Victor decides there is only one way to remove Joan from his life for ever but he’s in for a nasty surprise.

The play stars Les Dennis, who recently appeared as King Arthur in Spamalot, Claire Goose from Waking the Dead and Casualty, Gray O’Brien, who spent three years in Coronation Street, and Steven Miller, also formerly of Casualty.

Peter said: “Ever since I was a small boy when my parents first took me to the theatre, I dreamed of one day having something I wrote appear on stage.

“This wonderful, extremely funny and, in parts, very scary adaptation of The Perfect Murder truly is a dream come true.

“And I do not think we could have a more perfect, murderously wonderful cast!”

The Perfect Murder is at The King’s Theatre in Glasgow from March 17 to 22.
