Former River City star Holly Jack is off to Hollywood

SCOTS star Holly Jack is hoping to be Hollywood’s next big thing.

Karen Gillan and Breaking Bad’s Laura Fraser are already Stateside successes. Now former River City favourite Holly wants to follow in their footsteps.

“I went over to Los Angeles recently to do an acting course,” said Holly.

“I’d dreamed of going to Hollywood ever since I was a little girl. It was an amazing experience and you never stop learning even big name stars still take acting lessons.

“It wasn’t exactly a case of bumping into famous actors on every corner, although I did see Rupert Grint in a coffee shop.

“I’m sorting out visas to go back for pilot season when they start casting for new series.

“Laura Fraser’s my idol so I think if she can make it then maybe I can too.”

While she didn’t bump into stars in the States, a fortuitous meeting is responsible for her latest TV appearance.

She’s one of the new stars of Burnistoun’s Big Night, a one-off special from the popular comedy show.

“I was at the BBC Comedy Unit for something else entirely when I was spotted in the corridor and asked to look at the scripts.

“It was real change to do different characters for the sketches. Hopefully it will lead to other things.”

Lanarkshire lass Holly moved on from her troubled teen role in River City to a pupil in the last series of Waterloo Road.

“I was still in a uniform aged 25,” she laughs. “But I’ll take it as long as I can get cast!

“The downside is having to carry my ID everywhere or I’d never get served in a pub or be able to buy wine in a supermarket.”
