The Sunday Post’s Ross King has signed for Partick

The Sunday Post can exclusively reveal the Jags’ latest signing is our showbiz columnist Ross King.

Ross, based in Los Angeles, has officially registered to play for the SPFL side.

It means in an injury crisis manager Alan Archibald will be able to draft him as cover.

Ross is planning to rustle up some A-list chums to cheer him on too.

He reckons two of his close friends, action movie hero Gerard Butler and Take That star Gary Barlow, could be persuaded to get involved with the Maryhill club.

“I’m hoping Gary and Gerry will be at Firhill with me somehow.

“I’ve invited them to watch Thistle, but I was think the three of us could form a Hollywood consortium to buy the club.

“The only stumbling block of course is Gerry is a big Celtic man and Gary supports Liverpool. And I don’t have any money!

“I’m trying to convince Gerry to make his next film Firhill Has Fallen – but only when the season is finished.”

Ross, who has signed for Partick under its innovative Be a Jag scheme, said he was unlikely to play a first-team match – barring a massive injury crisis.

Although Ross is now registered as a player with the SPFL, the manager has so far resisted recalling him from Hollywood.

“I told Barry Venison (former Liverpool and Newcastle star who Ross plays alongside in Los Angeles) about the deal,” added Ross.

“He said I’d better watch there’s not a flu epidemic or I could be drafted in. I don’t fancy my chances in a 50-50 against Scott Brown. Or under any circumstances, really.”

He added: “Partick Thistle are the only club I’ve ever wanted to play for.

“It doesn’t matter that they’re the only club that’s ever asked me!

“My dad and my Uncle Joe used to take me along to Firhill when I was wee so this is a dream come true.”

A spokesman for Partick Thistle said: “After our mascot Kingsley made headlines around the world last year we’ve been looking for something a bit different to promote Partick Thistle.

“We’d like to welcome Ross on to our books but I’m sorry to say Kingsley is probably more likely to get a game than him.”

The Be A Jag scheme aims to raise money for Partick Thistle by inviting supporters to bid for a place in the squad.
