TEMPERATURES in the Scottish Highlands plummeted to -15.4 degrees last night amid snow falls and freezing conditions across the country.
The sub zero temperature was recorded in Braemar in Aberdeenshire overnight – the lowest in Scotland since 2010.
As a result, many schools across the Highlands have been shut for the third day running and police have advised drivers across the country to travel with caution amid treacherous and freezing conditions.

The council said Bonar Bridge Nursery, Bonar Bridge Primary, Durness Primary, Gairloch Nursery, Gairloch Primary, Gledfield Primary, Gledfield Primary Nursery, Kinlochbervie High School, Kinlochbervie Primary, Poolewe Primary, Poolewe Primary Nursery, Rosehall Primary, Scourie Primary and Scourie Primary Nursery had all been shut because of the weather.

A yellow weather warning is currently in place covering Central Scotland, Tayside, Fife, Grampian, Highland, Orkney and Shetland, south-west Scotland and Lothian.
One warning covering most of central and southern Scotland is valid until Monday at 2pm. The other covering the Highlands, Outer Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland is valid until tomorrow at 11am.

15 gritters are currently tackling snowy conditions on a number of trunk roads in Scotland’s north west including the A835, A82, A96 and A95.
Traffic Scotland have urged drivers to take care if travelling these roads.
