Scots star is keeping dossier under wraps.
New Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi has been compiling a secret dossier containing the inspiration he’s used to play the 12th Time Lord.
But, the actor, who grew up in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, has revealed he’s had to keep the book under lock and key after the first five scripts of the new series were leaked.
The 56-year-old, who will make his debut in the smash sci-fi show next Saturday said: “I’ve based him on a large selection of people.
“I won’t name names, because it will be more fun for people to spot them. I have a book though. I started to collect images and quotes from people I thought were Doctor Who-ish. But, I am not taking any chances with it.”
Last August more than six million people tuned in to see the live TV special when it was announced Capaldi would be taking on the role.
The Thick Of It actor had to be chauffeured around before the broadcast with a blanket over his head in case his identity was revealed.
Since it was recommissioned in 2005, Dr Who has become a massive hit.
But despite the size of the franchise Capaldi is confident he’s ready for the role having been an obsessive fan since he was a kid, writing to the producers and getting old scripts back in return.
He added: “It was like being allowed inside the Magic Circle, the point I knew I wanted to be part of this world.
“When I was Doctor-elect, before it was announced, I used to go to comic book shop Forbidden Planet in the west end of London and just hang around.
“It would amuse me that people wouldn’t know they were standing next to the next Doctor Who. That’s all in the past now. I can’t do it anymore.”
Capaldi had to keep news he landed the role secret from everyone but his wife and his 21-year-old daughter for 10 weeks after he found out. But he’s admitted he didn’t say “yes” straight away.
He said: “I just didn’t think it would happen to me. I didn’t want to be Doctor Who in a Doctor Who I didn’t like. I had to be convinced the show was going in the right direction.
“Not that I was ever going to say no. I thought, ‘You’ve loved this since you were a kid, how can you not be Doctor Who?’”
Capaldi’s mother encouraged his love of the show by sending him a Doctor Who annual every year.
He added: “By the time the show came back in 2005, she must have thought I was too old. But I suspect it will start again now.”
